Apart from being a place for rest and relaxation, the specially equipped benches let Prague citizens and visitors alike charge their phones or tablets, connect to the Internet, check the current temperature and air humidity or the volume of carbon dioxide in the air. All of that is available at the city public areas without the need to be connected to electric energy – the benches are powered by solar panels.

Functions

  • Wi-Fi
  • Electric power sources (2x USB with 2.1 A output)
  • Selected types have  sensors for air quality monitoring

Benefits

  • A clean and easily accessible energy source for mobile devices
  • Added value: the benches serve as a source of useful information
  • Collection of data for further processing and public space development

Project

As part of a six-month pilot project, 10 benches were installed in publicly accessible places in different locations across Prague. Based on the project evaluation and subsequent decision of the Prague City Hall and its municipal districts the tested smart benches may still be used in urban space.
